Feeder 2.1: Observational Blog
I went to the pit to have lunch a few days ago. There weren't many people outside eating that day, but from what I did see, the scenario was pretty interesting. Usually stragglers of one or a few people sat along the steps of the pit. In the center of the pit, was a table set by the Relay for Life organization. They were all wearing purple, to show a supported unity, and yelled for passerby's attention. The group members cheered, played loud and upbeat music while dancing. The norm was, however, if one did not want to lead the Relay members to think they were interested in the event, to stare blankly ahead, as if the obvious commotion was not there. If passerby people did look at the scene, it would be a quick glance with an emotionless face, walking about 10 feet away from the table. Once someone who seemed interested entered the Relay table's 5-foot diameter, Relay members would become excited, scream louder, and envelope the passerby. People not part of the Relay booth talked secluded amongst themselves, glancing around periodically at the Relay members and passerbys, sitting a few feet from others they did not know. People usually do not scream if it is not promoting the Relay, an organization who needs people to promote its motives.
